TOPIC: Remember His Goodness (DCLM Daily Manna 16 March 2024)

KEY VERSE: “When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the LORD thy God for the good land which he hath given thee” (Deuteronomy 8:10).

TEXT: Deuteronomy 8:1-10 (KJV)

1 All the commandments which I command thee this day shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, multiply, and go in and possess the land which the Lord sware unto your fathers.

2 And thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments or not.

3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.

4 Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.

5 Thou shalt also consider in thine heart that, as a man chasteneth his son, the Lord thy God chasteneth thee.

6 Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.

7 For the Lord thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hills;

8 A land of wheat, barley, vines, fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil, olive, and honey;

9 A land wherein thou shalt eat bread without scarceness, thou shalt not lack anything in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou mayest dig brass.

10 When you have eaten and are full, bless the Lord your God for the good land he has given you.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

Trevor Rees-Jones (also known as Trevor Rees) is a British author and former bodyguard who was severely injured in the car crash in Paris that killed Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1997. Because he suffered a severe head injury from the crash, he does not recall any details from the accident after he recovered. The power of remembering past events remains one of the best gifts of nature that can prevent repeating past mistakes or making wrong choices and decisions.

The Israelites were close to entering the land of Canaan in fulfillment of God’s promise. Moses, their leader, while calling them to faith and obedience to God, recounted His past interventions and miracles to them. His intention was for Israel to always remember and retain God’s goodness in their memory. The charge was necessary because with the promised prosperity of their new abode comes the danger of forgetting God and the temptation to become materialistic like their sinful neighbors.

The phrase “remember the Lord” is repeated several times in the Bible. Remembering God’s goodness is the remedy for fainting in times of difficulties or backsliding in times of increasing prosperity. Additionally, we ought to recognize God’s provisions in our lives and the many battles He has helped us to win. Such memories will shore up our faith to face any challenge that may confront us.

The most extraordinary goodness to remember is our salvation and preservation from sin. If you have been saved from the tyranny of sin by God’s marvelous grace, you should be eternally grateful to Him. Remembering God’s goodness always opens up a well of unlimited favor from Him.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Remember God’s goodness and reciprocate it.
