READ: PSALM 34: 1-10 (NKJV)

  1. A Psalm of David when he pretended madness before Abimelech, who drove him away, and he departed. I will always bless the LORD; His praise [shall] continually [be] in my mouth.
  2. My soul will boast in the LORD; the humble will hear [of it] and be glad.
  3. Oh, magnify the LORD with me, And let us exalt His name together.
34:4. I sought the LORD, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears.
  4. They looked to Him and were radiant, And their faces were not ashamed.
  5. This poor man cried out, and the LORD heard [him] And saved him from all his troubles.
  6. The angel of the LORD encamps all around those who fear Him And delivers them.
  7. Oh, taste and see that the LORD [is] good; Blessed [is] the man [who] trusts in Him!
  8. Oh, fear the LORD, you His saints! [There is] no want to those who fear Him.
  9. The young lions lack and suffer hunger, but those who seek the LORD shall not lack any good [thing].

THE MESSAGE:

This is a psalm of David, which he wrote probably from the cave at Adullam. A fugitive from Saul, David went to the Philistine city of Gath but found no refuge there and narrowly escaped (1 Samuel 21: 10-22: 1). Following that, he went to this cave where many desperate men joined him. This joyful and wise psalm shows that we need to be always thankful, no matter our circumstances (verses 1-2). David knew there was something attractive about the genuine praise of God (verses 3-7).

When one genuinely praises God, one wants to draw others into the practice of praise. If it is suitable to exalt His name, then doing it with His people is even better. David testifies how God delivered him and lighted the darkness in the lives of his friends. Don’t be selfish about the testimonies of God because God does not love only you. Others’ testimonies are yours also. David challenges us to experience God’s goodness for ourselves (verses 8-10), which can come through a personal encounter. God can do it again and again. Learn to testify of God’s goodness publicly and praise Him continually.

PRAYER: Thank You, Lord, for Your kindness, provisions, and tender mercies.
