FIRST READING
“You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly.”
A reading from the Letter of Saint James (James 4: 1-10)

Beloved: What causes wars, and what causes fightings among you? Is it not your passions that are at war in your members? You desire and do not have; so you kill. And you covet and cannot obtain; so you fight and wage war. You do not have, because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.  Unfaithful creatures!  Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you suppose it is in vain that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit which he has made to dwell in us”? But he gives more grace; therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you men of double mind. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to dejection. Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will exalt you.

The word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 55:7-5.9-10a.10b-1 1.23 (R. 23ab)
R/. Entrust your cares to the Lord, and he will support you.

I say, “O that I had wings like a dove,
to fly away and be at rest!
I would indeed escape far away,
and take refuge in the desert.” R/.

“I shall await him who saves me
from the raging wind and tempest.”
Engulf and confuse their speech, O Lord. R/.

R/. Entrust your cares to the Lord, and he will support you.

For I see violence and strife in the city!
Night and day they patrol its walls.
In its midst are wickedness and evil. R/.

Entrust your cares to the Lord,
and he will support you. He will never allow
the just man to stumble. R/.

ALLELUIA Galatians 6:14
Alleluia. Far be it from me to glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. Alleluia.

GOSPEL
The Son of man will be betrayed. If anyone would be first, he must be last.
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark (Mark 9:30-37)

At that time: Jesus and his disciples went on from the mountain and passed through Galilee. And he would not have any one know it; for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of man will be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him; and when he is killed, after three days he will rise.” But they did not understand the saying, and they were afraid to ask him. And they came to Capernaum; and when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you discussing on the way?” But they were silent; for on the way they had discussed with one another who was the greatest. And he sat down and called the Twelve; and he said to them, “If any one would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.” And he took a child, and put him in the midst of them; and taking him in his arms, he said to them, “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.”

The Gospel of the Lord.

TODAY’S REFLECTION
One reason God does not answer our prayers is that we pray wrongly, out of jealously, and selfish ambition (James 4:3). One who indulges in selfish desire is worldly, an enemy of God. Selfish ambition breeds arrogance and jealousy. It causes division bitterness, killings, covetousness, animosity, and unfaithfulness to God. Selfish desire let the apostles into worldly argument on who among them was the greatest. Jesus showed them, through a little child, that the way of humility is the way to becoming the greatest. Jesus showed them, through a little child, that the way of humility is the way to becoming the greatest. We must resist the devil, selfish ambition and the tendency to exalt ourselves.

TODAY’S SAINT: ST CHRISTOPHER MAGALLANES, P, & COMPANIONS, M.
Christopher was born in 1869 in Mexico and as a priest, distinguished himself for his faith and apostolic zeal. He was sent as a missionary among the ‘Huichole’ and spread devotion to Our Lady through the Rosary. He was loved by his confreres because of his wisdom and guidance. Having shown care for vocations, when the seminary of Guadalajara was closed because of the persecutions against the Church, he took care of the seminary by hosting them in his mission. On 25 May 1927 he was killed because of his faith along with another priest, Agustin Caloca, and several lay people.

PERSONAL DEVOTIONAL IN HONOUR OF B.V.M
In her role as the Mother of Jesus and the Mother of the Church the Blessed Virgin Mary did not disappoint. She gave her all in taking care of Jesus and she extended the same care and commitment to taking care of us her beloved children.

A good mother will always be there for her children no matter the situation. She was there at Calvary and she was also there at the upper room taking care of the apostles. We must honour her always as our Mother and go to her in prayers to seek her maternal help and intercession for the needs of our lives. She took care of Jesus and she will take care of us if we let her be our Mother also.

Let us pray,
Lord Jesus Christ, you gave us your Mother to be the Mother of the Church. May we learn from her to love the Church and to do our best to do your will always so that we will be with you in heaven on the last day. Amen. And May the Almighty God bless you: the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Meditation: Genesis 3:9-15, 20/Acts 1:12-14

Impress on our hearts true love so that we may long for you. O Mary, gentle and humble of heart, remember us when we sin. You know that all we sin. 5. ART OF REPARATION TO THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY:
O Most Holy Virgin, and Our Mother, we listen with grief to the complaints of your immaculate Heart surrounded with the thorns placed therein at every moment by the blasphemies and ingratitude of ungrateful humanity. We are moved by the ardent desire of loving you as Our Mother and of promising a true devotion to your Immaculate Heart. We therefore kneel before you to manifest the sorrow we feel for the grievances that people cause you, and to atone by our prayers and sacrifices for the offenses with which they return your love. Obtain for them and for us the pardon of so many sins. Hasten the conversion of sinners that they may love Jesus Christ and cease to offend the Lord, already so much offended. Turn your eyes of mercy toward us, that we may love God with all our heart on earth and enjoy him forever in Heaven.
