TOPIC: Don’t Touch His Glory

MEMORISE: “Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.” – Matthew 6:2 (KJV)

READ: Matthew 6:1-4 (KJV)

1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right-hand doeth:

4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Numbers 25-26

Open Heaven For Today 2024 MESSAGE

I have seen people who help others and, at every opportunity, refer to the time they helped them. That is a terrible thing to do, not how God taught us to do good. Jesus said in Matthew 6:3 that when you give alms, you must not let anyone else know about it. In Matthew 5:16, He said that as your light shines and people see your good works, they must glorify God. In other words, you are not to seek any glory for yourself as a result of your good works; all the glory must be to God and God alone.

When you help someone and go back to tell the fellow, “Remember how I helped you that other time,” you are indirectly trying to make them your prisoner. Don’t ever make anyone feel like they owe you because you helped them once. When you do good, do it unto God. Don’t become a pain in somebody’s neck or a source of remembering their shame just because you once helped them. You must note that God ordained you to perform that good deed for that fellow. He already planned on doing it; you were only privileged to be the one He chose to use. Ephesians 2:10 says:

We are his artistry, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God ordained that we should walk in them.

If God created you for good works and ordained that you walk in them, and you turn around to announce the sound works as your own doing, proclaiming yourself as the helper of someone else’s destiny, you are trying to take God’s glory. If you know anything about God, you will see that He does not share His glory with any man. Isaiah 42:8 says:

I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

Don’t try to contend with God over the good things He is doing in the lives of others through you. You are merely His vessel, and all the glory must Go to Him. This way, you will receive rewards for the good that you have done rather than face the consequences of trying to take His glory.

KEY POINT

Don’t become a pain in someone’s neck just because God used you to help them at one time or another.

HYMN 1 – All Hail The Power Of Jesus’ Name

1 All hail the power of Jesus’ name!
Let angels prostrate fall,
Let angels prostrate fall;
Bring forth the royal diadem,
And crown Him, crown Him,
crown Him, crown Him;
And crown Him Lord of all!

2 Ye chosen seed of Israel’s race,
Ye ransomed from the fall,
Ye ransomed from the fall,
Hail Him who saves you by His grace,

3 Sinners, whose love can ne’er forget
The wormwood and the gall,
The wormwood and the gall,
Go, spread your trophies at His feet,

4 Let every kindred, every tribe,
On this terrestrial ball,
On this terrestrial ball,
To Him all majesty ascribe,

5 O that with yonder sacred throng
We at His feet may fall,
We at His feet may fall!
We’ll join the everlasting song,

Open Heaven For Today 2024 Friday Daily Devotional By Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Divine Promotion

TOPIC: Divine Promotion

MEMORISE: “But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.” – Psalm 75:7 (KJV)

READ: Psalm 75:4-7 (KJV)

4 I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn:

5 Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck.

6 For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor the south.

7 But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Numbers 22-24

Open Heaven For Today 2024 MESSAGE

The best promotion anyone can have comes from God; nobody can take glory for such. In 1 Samuel 16:1-13, a shepherd boy was anointed to be King, not because somebody liked or spoke for him, but because God decided to promote him. I believe God wants to encourage someone reading this today, and that will be you, in Jesus’ name.

When God begins to promote a man, there is no telling how high He can take him because His arms are everlasting (Deuteronomy 33:27). 1 Samuel 2:8 says that He can pick a beggar from the dunghill and continue to lift him until he begins to sit amongst princes – that is real promotion.

My Father was so poor that poor people called him flawed. The day he bought an umbrella, there was jubilation in our home as if we had just purchased a new house. If God could pick the son of a poor farmer and cause him to be someone that Heads of State will be delighted to meet, then you cannot tell how high He can lift you. He promoted David from being the least recognized member of his family until he became the Father of the King of kings (Revelation 22:16).

Now that you know that there is no limit to how far God can take you, you must ask, “How can I become a candidate for divine promotion?” Mercy is the first thing you need for God to choose you for promotion. He said in Romans 9:15 that He will have mercy on whom He will have mercy. He is sovereign; He decides to promote whomever He pleases. One kind of person, however, that I know God will never ignore is one with a broken and contrite heart (Psalm 51:17). This is when a fellow’s will is so broken that all they desire is to please God at all times. Such a person never wants to offend God, and whenever they mistakenly offend Him, they become sorrowful and immediately ask for forgiveness.

This is the kind of person God was searching for when He needed someone to become the King of Israel. He said in Acts 13:22 that He had found a man who would do all His will. This is the kind of person God will promote. If you are like that, you have become a candidate for divine promotion.

REFLECTION

Are you sold out to the will of God? Have you been doing all His will?

HYMN 8 – I Need Thee Every Hour

1 I need Thee every hour,
Most gracious Lord;
No tender voice like Thine
Can peace afford?

Chorus
I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;
Every hour, I need Thee;
Oh, bless me now, my Savior!
I come to Thee.

2 I need Thee every hour,
Stay Thou nearby;
Temptations lose their power
When Thou art nigh.

3 I need Thee every hour,
In joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide,
Or life is vain.

4 I need Thee every hour,
Teach me Thy will;
And Thy rich promises
In me fulfill.

5 I need Thee every hour,
Most Holy One;
Oh, make me Thine indeed,
Thou blessed Son

TOPIC: Why God Chose You

MEMORISE: “And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased, and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.” – Matthew 23:12 (KJV)

READ: 1 Corinthians 1:26-29 (KJV)

26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:

27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise, and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the mighty things;

28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to naught things that are:

29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Numbers 19-21

Open Heaven For Today 2024 MESSAGE

If God has called you for an assignment, you may think, “Why is it me He chose out of everyone that could have done this work?” Well, Psalm 115:3 says that God does as He pleases.

He decided to use you for that assignment from the foundation of the world. He chose you before He said, “Let there be light” in Genesis 1:3. Ephesians 1:4 says:

According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

When I see people who are anxious about their future, I tell them, “Relax. Do you think God doesn’t know what to do? Do you think He is sitting in heaven, scratching His Almighty head and asking for advice on what next to do?” God settled your future before the foundation of the earth. This is why I am not worried; my future was decided before I was born. You should be humble because you didn’t choose yourself (John 15:16). You are not selected because you are educated or connected; it is the exact opposite.

1 Corinthians 1:27 says that God chooses the foolish things, the weak things, and the nought things. If God chose you, it means you are foolish by human standards; you are weak, and you are nothing by human standards. Even if it appears as if you are wise by human standards, the moment you surrender all to God and begin to live strictly by His standards, the world will start to see you as a foolish person. So, never raise your head in pride about your achievements. Nebuchadnezzar tried it and found himself in the bushes. For the rest of your life, you must be grateful to God. David said in Psalm 34:1:

I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.

David knew what he was talking about. God chose Him to be the King of Israel even when his family members would not have voted for him if he ran for elections. I believe that right now, God is talking to you concerning this because of how high He wants to take you. If you listen and become humble, He will lift you, but if you refuse to humble yourself, you will be abased (Matthew 23:12). Let pride disappear from your life completely.

REFLECTION

Check yourself sincerely. Is there still pride lurking somewhere in your heart? Please get rid of it today.

HYMN 14 – O What A Wonderful, Wonderful Day

1 O What a wonderful day that will be
When Jesus descends into the air,
Saints who have died, with the living shall be
All gathered to be with Him there.

Refrain:
Soon shall we see Him, the Saviour we love,
When He descends from the mansions above,
And with the King in His glory, we’ll reign,
For He is coming, year, coming again.

2 They shall be changed and be like Him for aye,
When He returns for His own;
O, what a glorious meeting that day,
With Jesus and those we have known! [Refrain]

3 Death will be ended, and sorrow shall flee,
The darkness of sin will be past;
All the redeemed their Redeemer shall see,
And enter His glory at last.
